In this study, backward extrusion method in semisolid state was applied to know the exact mechanism of both purification and densification for separation of the tramp elements of steel alloy scraps. SUS 304 stainless steel and steel cans were selected for refining trials. As the results of optical microscopic, hardness testing and EPMA analysis, it was confirmed that separation of enrichment of Cr and Ni could be achieved in SUS 304 stainless steel and high level of purified iron remained in unextruded part and tramp elements were extracted in extruded part of steel cans scraps.
