Generated droplets at liquid-liquid interface caused by a penetrating sphere: diameters, numbers, and positions of generated droplets
The measurement to investigate the generation of small droplets is executed by a penetrating sphere through liquid-liquid interface. Generated droplets are related to problem of chemical reaction and mixture. Water and silicon oil (5×10{sup}(-4) m{sup}2/s) under the room temperature are used for liquid-liquid interface. Brass spheres (with 4, 5 and C millimeters diameter) and glass sphere (7 millimeters diameter) are employed. All spheres are coated with water and oil repellent paint (fluorine compound). A sphere is naturally released eighty millimeters upon the oil layer. The scene of sphere penetration is captured by use of two high-grade video cameras (30 frame/s, 1024×1024 pixel). Two cameras are made a line square with each other. In this report, all image data of generated droplets can be caught. The velocity of falling sphere and the numbers, positions, diameters, migration velocity of droplets are measured by image analyzing. The frequency distribution of diameter and positions of generated droplets are obtained.
