The INSITE~* Technology Business of The Dow Chemical Company has launched five major families of new polyolefin copolymers since 1993.The industry recognized and rewarded the company not only for the significance of their technical innovation,but also for the speed of commercialization of their technology.The rapid commercial successes have been achieved by conscientiously adopting a new innovation philosophy,breaking away from the traditional product development practices.We focus first on understanding our customer's performance requirements and value in their applications,and then develop and integrate the essential technologies to design appropriate materials with differentiated properties to ensure their successes.Fundamental knowledge on chemistry,catalysis,kinetics,process capability,materials sciences,fabrication,and application requirements are keys to our speed of deliveries.Some of the practices used to enhance the innovation and implementation of INSITE~* Technology including roles of leaders,flexible allocation of resources,leverage total Dow resources,and early customer participation are discussed.
