摘要

Effective and efficient management of commercial vehicles and freight transport is increasingly important to a fleet operator in a competitive economic environment. This is the case, particularly with the increasing internet-related economic activities and reent rapid developments in E-business areas. This has led to the need for sophisticated fleet management systems (FMS) to improve custom service, to enhance the safety and security and to reduce the operation cost of commercial vehicle operation. In this paper, a new method has been presented that enhances the performance of a fleet management system by utilizing the real-time data obtained on a controller area network (CAN) based vehicle bus, a GPS-based automatic vehicle location system and an intelligent event engine designed for event monitoring, control and reporting. The paper demonstrates the value of such vehicle real-time information for function enhancement of a fleet management system.
