Development of a GIS-based Disaster Mitigation Planning Support System for Local Governments

Considering several problems in the development of regional disaster mitigation plans, we propose a GIS-based disaster mitigation planning support system for local governments in Japan. This system includes earthquake damage assessment and disaster mitigation planning support, in which the damage assessment serves as an evaluation of the plan. In this paper, we show the concept of the "disaster Mitigation Planning Support System", and a prototype system is presented, which indicates the direction of future development.
