Extrusion coating technology has evolved from relatively simple structures in the early 1950's to complex and highly technical structures, processes, and equipment today. The most demanding applications today are those which undergo 100percent visual inspection by the end user, such as photographic paper and the like. This paper will give an overview of the evolution of extrusion coating leading up to the requirements for today's high technology applications.
