Tehran aquifer environmental problems, a case study

摘要

Rapid growth of population in Tehran, needed to transmit substantial quantities of surface water to the city from adjacent basins. Traditional injection method for disposal of domestic wastewater caused a rise in groundwater table. This rise in groundwater table makes serious problems such as forming marshlands, flooding basements of buildings and causes difficulties in sewage disposal in the southern parts of the city. To combat the above mentioned problems in long term, a sewerage networks needs to be designed for the city, and in short terms, a groundwater table lowering program by means of intensive pumping through deep well have been carried out by the local water authorities. This study represents different types of environmental problems in comparison with the long term solution and shows the effect of local pumping program on the groundwater quality.
