The NanoGate is a device that precisely meters the flow of tiny volumes of fluid. Precise control of the flow restriction is accomplished by deflecting a cantilevered plate that is anchored in several places. The opening is adjustable at a sub-nanometer scale. Therefore, the NanoGate could potentially act as a molecular filtering device or a valve; in effect a fluid transistor. In addition, due to the favorable scaling laws of mechanical structures, the NanoGate can be manufactured on a micro or macro scale.
