The rice blast fungus, Magnaporthe grhea was delineated into 26 distinct MGR-RFLP groups by DNA Fingerprinting analyses. The lineages were excluded by the blast-resistance genes Pi-1+Pi-2. Blast-susceptible CO39 incorporated with the two genes were also resistant to blast in field tests. Therefore these two genes are currently being introgressed into high-yielding but blast-prone rice cvjyothi and IR50 to make them durably resistant to blast
