Inhibitory effects of chemical on in vitro culture of Fusarium moniliforme

In vitro, mycelial growth of Fusarium moniliforme, a cause of sugarcane wilt, was appreciably inhibited by some fungicides. With most fungicides, the inhibition increased with concentration. Fungicides tested were carbendazim (Agrozim and Bavistin), chlorothalonil (Kavach) and metalaxyl (Ridomil MZ) in one set of experiment while mercury compounds (Bagalol-6 and Emisan-6), captafol (Foltaf), mancozeb (Dithane M-45) and sulphur in an another set of experiment. Bavistin (100 to 2000 ppm) was found highly fungitoxic followed by Agrozim (1000 & 1500 ppm) and Kavach while Bagalol-6 proved highly fungitoxic at concentration ranging from 200-3000 ppm followed by Emisan, Foltaf and Dithane M-45 by filter paper disc method.
