Polyphosphazenes and polysiloxanes polymers are being investigated as promising lithium ion conducting polymers for application in lithium batteries [?].Since the lithium ion transport properties of a polymer depend on complexation of the Li~+ cations by the polymer,the introduction of ethylene oxide units,-CH_2CH_2O~-,into the above polymer structures provide lithium ion binding sites.The first polyphosphazene polymer electrolyte was poly[bis(methoxyethoxyethoxy) phosphazene] better known as MEEP.' MEEP,a comb polymer,incorporates four ethylene oxide units onto the highly flexible phosphazene backbone.Shriver and Allcock learned that the ambient temperature conductivity of MEEP was shown to be on the order of 10~(-5) S/cm,nearly two to three orders of magnitude higher than that observed for most PEO complexes.
