Material and Electrochemical characterization of Tetrapropylammohium Manganese Oxide Thin Films as Novel Electrode Materials for Electrochemical Capacitors
Thin films of tetrapropylammonium manganese oxide (TPA-MnO2) were prepared on nickel substrates using sol-gel process. Stable colloidal TPA-MnO2 was formed by the reduction of tetrapropylammonium permanganate with 2-butanol at room temperature. Thin films of TPA-MnO2 were formed by directly dip-coating these nano-colloid onto clean nickel foils followed by heat treatment under controlled conditions. The evolution of the microstructure of TPA-MnO2 films at various calcination temperatures were characterized using BET, XRD and SEM. BET results showed that heat treated TPA-MnO2 at 3.00, °C was mesoporous in nature with a specific surface area of ~ 50 m~2/g. The effect of additives such as methylcellulose and colloidal carbon on the microstructure and the conductivity of TPA-MnO2 films were also investigated.
