摘要

We will review in this presentation how the electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS) can be applied to characterize various metallofullerenes and their derivatives. The electronic properties of endohedral metallofullerenes in the solid state have been one of the central topics in studies on the metallofullerenes in relation to intrafullerene charge transfer that: drastically alters the magnetic and electronic properties of these fullerene-based materials. Because EELS M-edge spectrum of the lanthanoid metal or L-edge spectrum of the transition metal basically tells us what the valence state of the metallic atom is, the fine structure analysis of the edge can perceive the amount of charge transfer between the encapsulated metal and the carbon cage in metallofullerenes.
