Similarities between the compounds 6,6'-bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2,2'-bipyridine and salen have stirred an interest to use the former in ways that mimic the present uses of the latter. Capdevielle, et al., introduced the use of 6,6'-bis(2-hydroxyphenyl)-2,2'-bipyridine as a ligand for nickel(II) and copper(II) to create electropolymers (1). Aubert, et al., went on to study the properties of these electropolymers (2). Chung, et al, utilized the cobalt(II) complex to investigate electrOcarboxylation of arylmethyl chlorides (3). This was the first time that the non-polymerized metal-coordinated ligand had been truly employed in an electrochemical study. In this paper, we have extended this idea by looking at the electrochemical behavior of the corresponding non-polymerized nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes.
