Electrochemical Noise Methods (ENM) have been widely used to predict corrosion and evaluate coating performance in immersion. The technique monitors - the spontaneous fluctuations (also referred as noise) in potential and current that occurs between two identical coated metal electrodes. The potential and current noise can be used to evaluate the protective properties of coatings. ENM is a non-intrusive electrochemical technique since no external perturbation is applied to the test sample for measurements. This feature makes ENM very promising for in situ corrosion monitoring. However, conventional ENM setup cannot be applied directly for field application. A new ENM electrode configuration, based on the earlier work of Mabutt and Mills, was investigated in our studies, and good correlation was found between the two configurations.
