Formation of self-assembly controlled molecular- and thin-solid films of fullerene comprised of another redox-or photoactive molecular component in solution or at the liquid-air interface has become an area of active research since these are useful for developing new class of supramolecular assemblies and advanced materials with novel physico-chemical properties. In this regard, we have recently developed two novel routes to form self-assembled molecular films at the air-water interface. These involve self-assembly via axial ligand coordination of a metalloporphyrin and self-assembly via base-pairing methods.
