Bilayer lipid membranes (BLM) constructed on planar supporting substrates have been extensively studied.1 BLM on a solid support drastically improves the mechanical properties,which facilitates its applications.Lipid bilayers have been used as models of biological membranes to study the properties of surfaces and membrane proteins.Electrochemical techniques make possible the examination of electrical parameters as well as other membrane characteristics such as permeability and phase transition.Recently,researches on the biofunctionalization of inorganic materials has drawn much attention.2'3 Substrates modified in this manner would be useful in the development of new class of biosensors and transducers.A well-defined Au(III) electrode was used as a conductive substrate in this study.The interfacial behaviour of DMPC (dimyristoyl-1,2-diacyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine) monolayers and bilayers have been examined at 30 deg C.
