In order to gain insight on flying heads for magnetic recording with its trailing end (read/write element) contacting disks, experiment and analysis were performed. Heads with artificial protrusion at trailing end over-coat was prepared to flywith the protrusion in contact with a glass disk to perform the experiment. The result showed distinct relation between the gap fly height and pitch: high flyer tends to fly with low pitch angle and arrive at normal flying with lowering fly height andincreasing pitch angle during the course of flying on the glass disk. Attempt was made to simulate the almost linear relation between the flying height and pitch angle experimentally observed. Comparison of the simulation to the experiment ended with good agreement.
