The present results show, that the applied method could yield iron nitrides with high content of nitrogen. The following heat treatments do not allow a satisfactory transformation of given phases into the α"-Fe_(16)N_2 phase. It was found that for the powder samples prepared by spark erosion in the liquid ammonia after heat treatment at temperature between 150°C and 180°C high nitrogen ε(ξ) phase decompose to α, α" and γ' phases. The decomposition of this phase is accompanied by oxidation of substantial part of specimens. An important part of nitrogen atoms escape from the material.
