Findings from the U.S. Greenhouse Gas Inventory Process

This paper presents a brief summary of findings from the U.S. Inventory of Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks: 1990-1996, including emission sources, trends, and a brief look at a projection. Special attention is given to examining emissions from the transportation, electric utility, and industrial sectors. Lastly, changes in emission estimates resulting from methodological and data revisions, especially resulting from the release of the Revised 1996 IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories. The paper concludes with a couple of the issues to be addressed in the future as legal and practical applications of national inventory estimates are specified.
