FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE NATO ADVANCED RESEARCH WORKSHOP ON 'OCULAR RADIATION RISK ASSESSMENT IN POPULATIONS EXPOSED TO ENVIRONMENTAL RADIATION CONTAMINATION', KIEV 1997

摘要

These proceedings are concluded by the recommendations which were unanimously approved by the participants in the workshop. The recommendations are the result of intense break-out sessions held for each of the three disciplines represented; ophthalmology, dosimetry and epidemiology. The collective goal was to find agreement on the criteria which are considered essential in current and future studies of ocular damage to populations at risk. The participants, scientists from thirteen nations engaged in a merging of perspectives and approaches allowing consensus on a broad range of issues. Speakers addressed the topics in review fashion or in the detail required to assess specific questions which historically have proven problematic. The break-out discussions resulted in the formulation of criteria for the standardized assessment of populations at risk. Each discipline's views appear in the reports that follow. Together they represent the first true effort to offer a guide to the design and implementation of an ocular follow-up of a population exposed to greater-than-background doses of ionizing radiation.
