Most materials used in technology are polycrystalline.Therefore,the properties of those materials are often controlled by the properties of the internal boundaries (homophase and/or heterophase boundaries).One improtant prerequisite for an understanding of the properties of the interfaces is knowledge of their structure and composition to the atomic level.Information on cohesion across an interface is also critical.
