How does the Black Swan Fly? - Considerations for an HSCB Metamodel

Semantic inconsistency is frequently cited as a barrier to the interoperability and reuse of Human Social Cultural and Behavioral (HSCB) models and simulations. This paper will address considerations for the development of a comprehensive HSCB metamodel that addresses the theoretical challenges associated with modeling individual and collective behavior and its underlying motivations in four subdomains: (1) Empirical, (2)Metaphysical, (3) Psychological, (4) Metapsychological. The Empirical subdomain encompasses observed behaviors and is strongly represented in entity based simulations that represent the actions of individuals and small groups. The Metaphysical subdomain addresses the conscious structures of human cognition and their logical organization. The Psychological subdomain includes conscious and subconscious determinants of individual and group behavior. The Metapsychological subdomain attempts to capture external pressures in society and culture on individuals and groups. The proposed HSCB metamodel will be represented in IDEF0 form. The paper will discuss criteria by which such a metamodel may be validated.
