PROVIDING ENVIRONMENTAL TAILORING IN INTEGRATED NATURAL ENVIRONMENTAL REPRESENTATIONS

A desired goal of the Integrated Natural Environment Authoritative Representation Program (INEARP) is to be able to provide authoritative environmental representations that meet the complete set of customer requirements. The data mining features being developed as a part of the Environmental Scenario Generator (ESG) program will go a long way in identifying environmental conditions that match, or are close, to a customer's needs. However, it is recognized that the ESG may not be able to find environmental conditions in the "real world" that exactly match the customer's requirements in all case. In those situations, the goal is then to find ways to "tailor" the environmental representation that is found in the archives or generated as a Just-in-Time process in a way that is physically consistent and matches the context of the customer's requirements. In this paper we will examine different techniques that can be used to tailor environmental representations. We shall examine the physics implications of the techniques and the impacts they may, or may not have, on the goals of the simulation or application that requires the environmental representation.
