Aging Assessment of XLPE by Electric Modulus

For cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation in cables, its degradation is a matter of concern. Although public concern has been aroused over the safety awareness of a nuclear power plant (NPP) since the disastrous Fukushima accident, many XLPE-insulated cables are used in NPPs for safety-related purposes. In this paper, electric modulus, a useful tool for assessing the dielectric property of an insulation polymer, is used in the aging assessment of XLPE samples, to which various degrees of degradation were given to simulate their use in NPPs.
