To study the degradation mechanism and the diagnostic method of partial discharge for the cavitation phenomenon in HVDC MI-PPLP cable, the artificial butt-gap model was designed and the experiment for the partial discharge and the breakdown have been performed under the DC voltage application. As a result, both methods of TF map and PSA adopted in this study are considered to be effective for analyzing DC PD. In addition, the partial discharge phenomena in the artificial butt-gap could be separated into two stage such as the early stage of void discharges and the latter stage of the degradation to the breakdown. Also, it is possible to recognize the pattern of both parts clearly by the PSA method.
