In this paper, we propose a hand-written character recognition using SOM. The recognition for hand-written characters are very difficult, because these forms are various and fluctuating very sharp. Then to permit these fluctuations, we use four mapping data that obtained from lengthwise, lateral, right and left oblique forms of characters for the recognition. Experimental results show that the proposed method has good performance for the recognition of hand-written characters although it is a very simple.
