The Haramachi Thermal Power Station No.2 Unit of Tohoku Electric Power Co., Inc. has achieved the high pressure and temperature steam conditions of 24.5 MPa(250kg/cm{sup}2·g) and 600/600°C for the first time in Japan, which resulted in a highly efficient coal fired plant. Hitachi, Ltd. and Babcock -Hitachi K.K. (BHK) have supplied the 1000MW (gross) steam turbine-generator and the 2890 t/h boiler as the main equipment suppliers. The newly developed high-strength materials are utilized for high temperature operating conditions of the main steam and reheat steam, and consequently high gross plant efficiency of 44.76% (Higher heating value basis) has been realized at the rated load for this power plant. Furthermore, state-of-the-art low NO{sub}x combustion technologies have been applied to minimize the emission level. This paper focuses on the latest boiler technologies used by Tohoku Electric Power Co. Inc. and BHK to make the plant most efficient and friendly to the environment, together with the boiler commissioning results confirmed in 1998.
