EMISSION TRADES FROM ENERGY EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS: WIN-WIN-WIN

The electricity market is changing - the need to compete is driving lower costs and the need for higher output with increasing attention to strict environmental obligations. As the deregulated electricity market mirrors other markets, we can expect to see change continue and the energy providers that accept and respond will achieve the highest rewards. Like never before, electricity-restructuring stories, previously restricted to trade journals, fill newspapers and magazines. Many of the stories involve amalgamations, joint efforts, and new development of new markets. Electricity companies are responding with new tactics - green generation, choice offerings and combined services are typical examples. Environmental concerns are also growing, particularly in the area of green house gases. Utilities are often the focus of these stories. One of Ontario Power Generation's successful programs was the internal energy savings program that saved close to 1.9 billion kWh/yr. or over
