Electrocoating, powder coating heavy duty truck bumpers -- a case history

This paper will deal with the history of coatings used to protect bumpers for heavy duty trucks, researching a chronology of the changes that have taken place and why. The evolution of the organic coating processes used today will also be highlighted. A review of the logistics and handling considerations with the coating operations will be discussed. There will be a short overview of the processes, as well as the physical specifications to be met and the coating performance expected. Possible problem areas and process considerations will be reviewed. The equipment required for the processes will be illustrated and a general overview of the economics will be presented.
