The Diesel Particulate-NO{sub}x Reduction system (DPNR) combines a new catalyst and the Low Temperature Combustion (LTC) to simultaneously reduce NO{sub}x and particulate matter (PM) from diesel vehicles. Applied to the 2.0LD4D passenger car, it has the ability to reduce emissions substantially below the European STEP4 limits. A large-scale field monitoring with 62 vehicles has been set up in Europe and Japan to confirm the potential and robustness of the new concept. During monitoring, the operation of several control strategies, such as forced PM oxidation and SO{sub}x discharging, and the emission history have been confirmed under actual driving conditions.
