The characteristics of pressure drop and cooling performance of coolant passing through surroundings of each cylinder have been studied on a linear 4-cylinder 4-valve 2 liter diesel engine using a commercial CFD code. The results on coolant flow rate per gasket hole show that the 48% of total coolant flow rate flows through exhaust port regions while the remaining 52% flows through intake port regions.
