Characteristics of the Accidents and Near-accidents of the Taxicabs Analyzed using Drive Video Recorders' Data

The article shows the characteristics of the accident and near-accident of the 200 taxicabs in Tokyo. The group of the authors consists of an automobile research institution and two actual taxi companies. Drive video recorders (DVR) can take clear vision of the aspects of traffic accidents and near-accidents such as the motion of the taxicab which a DVR is installed, the motion of objects concerned, the road environments including the signal control, and other conditions. The authors' group has collected more than 100,000 records now and found some characteristics of taxicabs' driving such as scooping other cars, violation of the traffic regulation, etc. The group also found some essentials to avoid traffic accidents such as appropriate speed in the reaction time, the inductivity of the near-accident by the bicycles, etc. The group will make an efficient safety instruction for the taxi drivers with the knowledge above.
