To determine the appropriate allowable hydrogen leakage after collisions of fuel-cell vehicles, the leakage amount of the generated heat equivalent to that of gasoline, flame scales, and influence of mix-burning with flammable materials were compared among hydrogen, methane, and gasoline. The results showed that the flame scale of hydrogen was about the same as those of other fuels, and confirmed that the safe distance for hydrogen was the same as the safe distance for the other fuels. And furthermore, irradiant heat the hydrogen flame with liquid flammable materials was the same as the gasoline flame. Consequently, it is appropriate to stipulate the allowable amount of hydrogen leakage by a generated heat equivalent to that of gasoline.
