Temperature dependence of efficiency of supercooled thermal energy storage

Dependences of the storage efficiency on the temperature of supercooled storage, the thermal insulation of the storage tank, and the volume of the storage material are evaluated by numerical simulation for long-term latent heat thermal energy storage which uses supercooling. Disodium hydrogenphosphate dodecahydrate is the storage material. The calculation shows that the storage efficiency of Supercooled Thermal Energy Storage monotonically increases with increasing storage volume like conventional Latent Heat Thermal Energy Storage. The efficiency reaches maximum at a higher storage temperature than the ambient temperature. The optimal storage temperature which gives the maximum efficiency increases with the storage volume and the thickness of the thermal insulation around the storage tank.
