Recurrent dynamics in a high-dimensional nonlinear system are discussed using the power spectra of finite-time trajectories. Quantifying a degree of recurrence in phase space provides rich information of global structures that explain short and non-stationary data. A high-dimensional swing equation analyzes short-term electromechanical dynamics of a multi-machine power system. The power spectra of finite-time trajectories make it possible to visualize the degree of recurrence on a two-dimensional section in the high-dimensional phase space and relate the information of phase space to the exchange of power between different machines with a given frequency.
