A search engine utilizing structure of a handbook for a specific domain

A Search engine for supporting environmental risk analysis was developed. A robot-type search system with a ranking program that evaluates quality of information related to environmental risks included in WWW pages was designed. To determine whether a page contains important information or not, the system utilizes the words listed in the index of "Handbook of Risk Research". If words inputted by a user is found in a chapter in the Handbook, words listed in the index and found in the same chapter are considered as the "important words", which are highly weighted and used for ranking the search result.
