The history and construction of the two-roll mill are reviewed to lay a foundation for discussing mill applications in contemporary compounding and materials preparation operations.A review of the components of a mill and approaches to mill design and construction is undertaken along with a summary of the variations in application common in the rubber industry.An overview of the various applications and purposes of the mill is offered,along with considerations affecting mill installation.The impact of varius features on product quality,flexibility of operation,and overall efficiency is discussed.In light of the extensive inventory of used equipment available in the marketplace for current use.
