The manufacturing process of EPDM sponge rubber profiles,that are becoming increasingly complex,has to be optimized because of an enormous pressure of the automotive industry to keep costs in line.As there is still little knowledge and process understanding,extensive investigations were done at the Institute of Plastics Processing to correlate the rheological material properties,the influence of the compound components and the parameters of the extrusion process with the final product quality.Within the scope of this work some results allow an improved manufacturing process.
