Improved adhesion in blends of EPDM elastomers

Compounded EPDM elastomers are deficient in their self-adhesion on contact at room temperature.This is acute in semicrystalline EPDM elastomers where diffusion flux across the inteface is retarded.Self-adhesion arises from diffusion of polymer molecules across the interface followed by entanglement.We show that blends of an amorphous EPDM polymer with a minor amount of a semicrystalline EPDM polymer leads to improved self adhesion.
