A PC-based VSAT system is gaining more applications in the field of current low cost, multi-rate, multimedia and geographically broad area information broadcast such as internet download, security price broadcast, electronic newspaper transferring and others. The key problem to implement such networks is the design of satellite PC receiver cards that meet the technical definitions that PC-based VSAT networks specify. Following the brief introduction of the network architecture of PC-based VSAT high data-rate satellite broadcast systems, this paper gives technical reuirements of PC-based VSAT receiver card to be designed. Finally, the design considerations are presented. The PC receiver card designed in this paper support variable data rates from 4.8kbps or 8.448Mbps. It can directly interfaces with the industry standard PC 1SA bus and C-band and Ku-band TVRO tuner.
