It is a great pleasure to participate in this symposium to honor Earll Murman with our work addressing an aspect of the study to which Earll with colleagues has made an earlier contribution [31]. "Superboom" was used earlier in Hayes works [20,21] to refer to an abnormally intense sonic boom occurring on the ground as the aircraft Mach number approaches and passes a threshold value, depending on the ratio of the sound speed near the ground and at the cruise altitude.
