Leeds general infirmary/university of Leeds - application of combined heat and power under the private finance initiative

This paper is a case study regarding the new Combined Heat and Power plant that has been added to the existing power and heat generation facilities at the General Infirmary in Leeds. Additional plant was required to meet the increasing energy demands on the Infirmary, at the same time also supplying the energy needs of the adjacent University of Leeds site. The project has been carried out as a partnership between the public and private sectors under the requirements of the Private Finance Initiative. The private sector has funded the new plant, and is now contracted to operate both the new and existing plant for 20 years. Details of the procurement route and key features of the contract are given.
