A strategic problem in tribology research including fretting is discussed. Tribology is one of the typical sciences, o f which a wide range of disciplines and technologies is concerned. Researchers should pay much attention to the harmony in multi-discipines, especially infretting. The more perfectly harmonic the siciplines are mingled in, the more profund the acievenment woruld be. In current research work of tribology in China, specialty education results in that the theoretical level of graduates is often not wide and varied enough fully competent for his academic work. Furthermore, in the whole education process, not numch attention was devoted to cultivate the self-study ability of the studients. This made the studients so incompetent in gaining additional knowledge independently. and finally, ttention for education reform is appealed.
