Tribological behaviors and microstructure of ZiNc-27WT aluminum alloy prepared by powder metallurgy

The powder used in this study was prepared by gas atomizing Mn, Ti, B and R.E. modified Zn-27 wt.% Al alloy using nitrogen as media. The pre-alloyed powders were pressed then sintered at a temperature of 400°C. The tribological behaviors of thesintered alloy under lubricated and non-lubricated conditions were studied and compared with those of cast Zn-27 wt.% Al alloy and sintered bronze. Experimental results indicated that the wear resistance of the sintered alloy prepared in this study isbetter than those of the compared materials. Optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy were employed to examine the microstructure of the gas-atomized powder, the sintered alloy and the worn surface. The wear-resisting and anti-frictionmechanisms were also studied.
