An excellent response was received from both surveys. In all, details were obtained from 108 deposits including Gold O/P Gold U/G and Nickel O/P & U/G. The overall preference for a particular interpolation technique on the Eastern Goldfields showed no relation to the lithological or structural setting of the deposits. 19 mines provided numeric grade reconciliation results, but no statistical difference between classical and geostatistical methods was found, unfortunately the sample size was small. therefore this conclusion should be reviewed at a later date when more information is available. Overall the ratio of geostatistical versus classical interpolation method usage was 1:5, this response indicates that confidence in geostatistics in this region is still low. The reason for use of a classical technique rather than a geostatistical one is dominated by company policy, that is. decisions are often made off-site with no individual assessment made of the ore body being worked.
