The probability of combustion synthesis of polynary Ti-Ni-X shape memory alloys and the effect of addition elements on the synthesis process and microstructures have been invesigated. Although the melting poijts of some elements are much higher tahn combustion teperatures, the cast microstructures comp9osed mainly of TiNi phase were obtained by the combustion synthesis method in extremely short time. All elements reacted and formed compounds during the synthesis process.
