FISSION PRODUCTS AND TRANSURANIC ELEMENTS RELEASED INTO THE ENVIRONMENT DURING THE CHERNOBYL ACCIDENT

In the night of April 26 1986 , at 1.23.40, mistakes made by the personnel working at the Unit-4, multiplied by mistakes of the Reactor designers caused the most serious accident in the history of atomic energy. The morning and then the day of April 26 came. In the daylight, the damage to the Unit-4 became clear. The roofing of the building, where the Unit-4 was situated, no longer existed. A part of the destroyed walls formed an obstruction from its northern side. The upper stories of the block, adjacent to the reactor's building were also ruined. The roof of the Machine Hall with turbo-generators was damaged in many places.
