Fiber reinforced composites derive their strength properties primarily from the type, orientation, and amount of reinforcement in their construction. However, in many of the composite fabrication processes, the available forms of the reinforcement and the process requirements dictate that more reinforcement be used than necessary, resulting in higher density and higher material cost in the end product.
