The Mt Todd Gold Mine Phase II Processing plant incorporates the most extensive use of Vertical Shaft Impactors for large scale processing that is in use currently within the world. The size and gold distributions resulting from the substantially abrasive action of the Barmac VSI units is unusual, and may allow improved leach recovery of the Batman ore. This is due to the liberation requirements of this ore, and the benefits associated with the preferential reduction of the gold containing components. Efficient screening to a 2.4 mm p80 product at production rates of around 100 t/hr/unit has been demonstrated with the Bivitec screen units from Binder & Co. The production of an essentially barren oversize reject stream from one of the screen oversize stream provides an opportunity to substantially decrease operating cost and / or improve gold recovery. The importance of these demonstrated effects during design of circuits for similar ores should not be underestimated and be included with any similar laboratory metallurgical testwork program, including pilot scale trials. Softer oxide type ores amenable to heap leaching, but with a fine liberation requirement, may be particularly suitable for this type of rushing flowsheet.
